Creative to $100k

02: Here's the roadmap to $100k (for now)

Helloooo there 🌱

If you read my previous post, I shared the why behind Creative to $100k.

But a vision without a plan is just that, a vision. So here's my game plan to reaching my first $100k invested, and I'm giving myself 1 year.

It's a case of aiming for the moon and landing among the stars!!

Count down to 2027-03-18T00:00:00.000Z

Why $100k?

Everyone in personal finance says the same thing:

The first $100k is always the hardest

But after that, compounding starts doing more of the heavy lifting. So this first milestone feels symbolic to me. Not just financially, but mentally. It represents building enough momentum so that the system can start working for me.

Where will I find this money!?

Okay so elephant in the room is that my income looks a tad unconventional. Instead of one salary, it's:

• Brand Partnerships/Collaborations
• UGC work
• Freelancing
• Digital products
• Market research/Focus groups

None of these are guaranteed, which is both scary AND exciting!! Because it's up to me to make it happen.

The price I pay is stability and certainty, but c'mon I'm single with no dependents. Surely I can afford to take the leap 🫣

Keeping investing stupid simple

Simplicity is KEY so I’ve made one rule for myself:

Any money I earn from creating will be invested. Not spent.

For now, I’ll be living off the savings I built while I was working in corporate. It feels a little like planting seeds instead of harvesting them immediately. After all, the day you plant this seed is not the day you eat the fruit 🌱

All of it will go into ETFs, which I’ll talk more about in a future post where I’ll share my portfolio and the strategy behind it.

For now, the approach is simple:
• Keep expenses low to prolong Emergency Fund

• Invest all my creative earnings

Wait, don't forget about taxes!!

One thing I’ll eventually need to figure out is taxes. In Australia there’s a tax-free threshold of $18,200, so depending on how things go this year, I may or may not hit that.

Once I do cross the threshold, my plan is simple. I'll set aside 30-40% of every payment for tax.

I don’t have everything figured out yet, but that’s part of the process.

I trust myself to learn as I go (and I'll share everything here!)

Why I'm sharing this openly

Because most money stories are told after the fact, after someone has already made it. I've been so ashamed to share how messy and chaotic the past year has truly been, but I'm ready to start owning this "messy middle".

The experimenting, the uncertainty, the figuring things out as I go.

That’s the phase I’m in right now so no point acting like I'm not lost most of the time?? I AM LOST! and it's okay hehe.

It's more than just hitting $100k...

Of course hitting $100k through creative income would be amazing. But in hindsight, it's also proving to myself that I can build a life outside the traditional path I grew up believing was the only option.

$100k invested is still the goal though obvi!!

Regardless, younger me would be ecstatic.

Anyway, that's all I have for a game plan (sorry not sorry if it's not very Type-A).

Stayed tuned because in the next post, we're talking about moneyyy 💸 I'll be sharing my investment strategy and how I plan to allocate $100k. It's gotta go somewhere right?!
